Hanover Township Shade Tree Commission Meeting

June 18, 2001

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Commission was held at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 18017 at 6:30 P.M.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Daniel Roman, Jeff Waldron, and guest David Zakeski. Absent was Susan Gibisser.

Upon motion of Daniel Roman, seconded by Jeff Waldron, the Commission approved the agenda after the following change was made: In item #4, Gateway Office Plaza was changed to Uplands Office Plaza.

1. Upon motion of Jeff Waldron, seconded by Joan Witiak, the Commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the Shade Tree Commission dated May 14, 2001.

2. Reviewed the tree planting plans for the various township parks. The shade tree commission members toured the Municipal Park again to identify locations that need additional trees. This completes the mark up of the prints for the new park trees. These prints will be given to the Recreation Advisory Board for review and approval.

3. Request for bids is on hold until the tree planting plans are approved and the required tree list is compiled.

4. Review plans:

a. Uplands Office Plaza: ok

b. Northgate: ok

c. LVIP IV, Lot 35: ok

d. Jaindl Plans: We will wait to comment until Havover Engineering has had a chance to initially review the plans. The trees to be removed will be assessed for size and health. There is a massive number of trees scheduled for removal. Plus, all of the existing tree lines in the fields were removed when the Jaindl Company first purchased the land. We are very concerned about the road that will be constructed through a stand of mature oak trees on Hanoverville Rd. This is one of the few mini-forests left in the Township.

5. Reviewed permits. The properties that have expired permits will be checked to verify that the tree has been replaced.

6. New business: A survey of the Weis Market property on Crawford Dr. has been completed. There are dead trees that need to be replaced. A letter will be sent.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
