Upon motion of Jeff Waldron, seconded by Joan Witiak, the Commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the Shade Tree Commission dated April 16, 2001.

1. Tree planting and replacement: Dan Roman will get prints of all the parks. They will be marked to indicate where trees are to be planted and will be submitted to the township for approval. We expect a late fall planting.

Westgate Park will get 5 new trees.

Troxell Park will get 1 new tree.

College Heights will get 2 new trees.

Point North will get 6 replacements.

Pharo will get 1 replacement.

Municipal Park will need a walking tour to select tree sites.

Dave Zakeski will inspect the trees at Weis Markets and list the quantity and type that need to be replaced.

2. Gateway Office Plaza review: Ok

3. Northgate review: Shingle oak trees have not done well in Pointe North Park. We would like to substitute Sawtooth or Red oaks for the Shingle oaks. Comments letter to be sent.

4. LVIP IV Lot 35 review: Trees need to be shown in or around parking areas. Comments letter to be sent.

5. Twenty-seven shade tree permits have been received. Letters went out to remind the owners that have not yet planted the trees.

6. The four Zelkova trees in Macada North Park and two Beech trees in Troxell Park are in need of pruning. Because these are large trees, Jeff Waldron will investigate professional pruners. Joan Witiak will prepare a list of tree maintenance work to be done in the parks sometime this summer.

On May 9, Mr. Robert VanWhy of the Fire Department helped us with watering the new park trees. We will ask the fire department for help again if we encounter another drought period.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Daniel J. Roman
