Minutes 4/11/2002
MEMBER ATTENDANCE: Dean Koski, Michael Caffrey, Michael Stasak, Bill Hursh and Mary Ellen O’Connell.
Call to order: 7:35 PM by Dean Koski.
Review and acceptance of 3/14/2002 minutes – Motion by D. Koski, seconded by M. Stasak. Approved by all members. NOTE: Board members did not receive hard copies of the March minutes.
7:35 – 7:55 – Park Assignments, minimum of a monthly visit to check conditions of each park:
7:55 to 8:00 – The Recreation Advisory board will begin submitting a Park of the month in HanoverView each issue. The owner of each park will write the article.
8:00 – 8:10 – Crawford Park Update.
Recommendation: The Board recommends that the Township proceeds with the Crawford Park plans as submitted by Hanover Engineering. Motion by Dean Koski, seconded by Mike Stasak. All members voted in favor.
Recommendation: The Board recommends researching the ADA guidelines to identify if there are enough handicap parking spaces for the identified field usage. Motion by Dean Koski, seconded by Mary Ellen O’ Connell. All members voted in favor.
8:10 – 8:30 – Update of Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) Seminar attended by Dean Koski and Mike Caffrey. Highlights are as follows:
8:30 – 8:35 – During Hanover Township Community Day the Recreation Advisory Board will sponsor a booth or table for the purpose of gathering and disseminating information. Bill Hursh will follow up with Cathy Heimsoth.
8:35 – 8:45 – Recommendation: In an effort to cultivate dialog between the Board of Supervisors and the Recreation Advisory Board (RAB), the RAB recommends that a liaison from the Board of Supervisors be appointed to the RAB to attend meetings at a minimum of twice per year. Motion by Mike Stasak, seconded by Mary Ellen O’Connell. All members voted in favor.
8:50 – 8:55 – A RAB member will attend the Board of Supervisors meeting each month immediately following the RAB monthly meeting.
8:55 – 9:20 – The RAB had a lengthy discussion regarding the potential elimination of tobacco use in all park and pool areas and will investigate any township ordinances currently in existence.
9:20 – 9:25 - Recommendation: The RAB recommends that the Township furnish a storage cabinet in the Municipal Building for use by the Recreation Advisory Board to store necessary materials. Motion by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Mary Ellen O’Connell. All members voted in favor.
9:30 – Motion to close the meeting by Dean Koski, seconded by Mike Stasak. All members voted in favor.
Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2002.
