Review of July 2004 minutes: – Motion to approve by Karen Kennedy, seconded by Bill Hursh. Approved by all members.

7:30 - 8:00 Al Krapf, Judy Krapf and Phil Herman attended the meeting to request permission to utilize a park or designated area of our Township to participate in the growing sport of Geocaching. Geocaching is an adventure game using a GPS unit, which is an electronic device that can determine an approximate location on the planet. The idea is that individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world in parks and various outdoor areas and share the locations on the Internet. The cache container would include a logbook along with anything from information on local history to maps, tools, games, etc. These items turn the cache into a treasure hunt. The rules of the game are outlined on the Internet. The RAB plans to review these ideas with the other RAB members at next month’s meeting and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors at that time. The current consensus is that it sounded like a great idea and would be a fun activity to have in our Township.

8:00 – 8:10: Joan Rosenthal, a Township resident, expressed concern over the current playground equipment at Delta Manor Park. Many residents’ grandchildren are utilizing the park and the equipment is outdated and unsafe. She was informed that this is on our agenda however, replacements will not occur this year due to budgeting. We are currently looking into purchasing equipment for next year.

8:15 – 8:30: Director’s Report

Recreation programs scheduled for Fall 2004 went to print and should be received by residents shortly.

The Community Center will now be included as a voting location for the upcoming Election Day.

8:30 – 9:30: Long Range Planning

Steve Crump suggested forming sub – committees for some of our long range planning projects due to only meeting once a month. The majority of work could be done throughout the month and presented at the monthly meeting. This would facilitate the progress of long term planning. Betty indicated that Jim Sterner would first have to approve this.

Karen Kennedy contacted Tony Casciano of Boyce Associates, which is a local distributor of Little Tikes Playground Equipment to discuss obtaining new equipment needed for Delta Manor, College Heights, Crawford Park and the new Jaindl property Park. We are in the process of setting up a meeting with him to discuss this information.

Pool: Jim Sterner has requested a representative from each Township Board to attend a meeting (date yet to be determined) to discuss the major repairs needed on the pool. The pool needs to be drained in order to determine all of the work that needs to be done. He also wants to discuss the feasibility of an indoor pool.

A request for a Port –o-Potty at the Community Center Park needs to be included as part of our long term plan. Jim Sterner expressed reservations due to possible vandalism as well as aesthetics.

9:20 Parks Update:

The recreational improvements discussed at July’s meeting, which involve spending money, need to be prioritized and discussed at budget time.

Delta Manor: It was determined that the low hanging wire was an RCN cable wire has been fixed and is now at a safe height.

The Shade Tree Commission will remove the dead trees at Macada North.

It was requested that a picnic table remain at Troxell Park throughout the year and not just during the summer park program. Jim Sterner did not allow this because it could cause kids to congregate without supervision.

9:30 – Motion to close the meeting by Bill Hursh. Seconded by Karen Kennedy. All members voted in favor.

Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 2004.
