Bethlehem,
PA 18017-9303
Minutes 02/12/2004
MEMBER ATTENDANCE:
Steve Crump, Karen Kennedy, Betty Soltys, Mike Stasak, Bill Hursh, Tom
Black and Mike Caffrey
Call to order: 7:40 PM by Betty Soltys. Motion to open the
meeting by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Mike Stasak. Approved by all members.
Review of January 2004 minutes – Motion to approve by
Steve Crump, seconded by Mike Stasak. Approved by all members.
7:50 to 8:00
– RAB Chairperson Update
- Crawford
Park Update. Upper Saucon
installed soccer fields a few years ago.
The township maintenance crews care for the fields, but did have a
professional turf company come in prior to use for turf maintenance.
8:00 to 8:45
– Recreation Director Update
- The
planned Casino Royale Night has been cancelled
due to small games of chance not allowed within Hanover
Township.
Pricing policies are being reviewed
with the Board of Supervisors. The Board
supports the price increases for HTCC membership and further recommend
the same ratio for HTCC membership costs of non- residents versus residents as
the pool costs (ie. 2 ½ times more @ the pool for
non-residents).
8:45 – 9:30
– Crawford
Park
- The
RAB recommends doing a full and complete preparation since the fields are
currently not in good playing condition.
This includes weeding, top dressing, seeding and whatever else is
necessary. While this process could
delay playing time, we feel that it would be better to delay and have the
fields prepped properly rather than not have them done correctly and lose
future playing seasons. Estimates
will be sought. Previous estimates
were obtained from the Brickman Group last year.
9:30
– 9:45 - R Macada
Farms Park
Survey
The following
are the results from the basketball court survey:
191
questionnaire’s were mailed 54 responses were received
36 were in favor
of new basketball courts
14 were not in
favor
4 people were neutral
The Board recommends that we obtain
demographics of the community in order to determine long-range recreational
plans. While basketball courts will be
considered in our long-range plans, we don’t feel it would be suitable to
respond to individual neighborhood requests.
9:45 - 9:55
- Delta Manor.
- The
current playground equipment needs to be updated. The Board is looking into obtaining new
equipment.
9:55 - 10:00
– Pool Shade.
- Since
the 2 shade structures installed last season at the pool received such a
favorable response, the Board is looking into the requirements and costs
necessary for additional shade structures.
10:25
- Motion to close the meeting by Steve Crump, seconded by Karen
Kennedy. All members voted in favor.
Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2004.
