MEMBER ATTENDANCE: Dean Koski, Michael Caffrey, Tom Black, Bill Hursh, Betty Soltys.
Call to order: 7:45 PM by Dean Koski.
Review and acceptance of 6/13/2002 minutes Motion by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Tom Black. Approved by all members.
7:50 8:00 Open Floor:
- Tom Kester, 1265 Stark Road, would like to have more shade available at the pool due to the potential health risks from the sun. He would like to see additional trees. In the meantime, he requested additional sleeves for umbrellas or an open-air pavilion or tent structure. If umbrella sleeves are available now, they cannot be located in the grass and need to be better marked.
8:00 8:10 Update to adding landscaping to the pool area.
- The recommendation from landscapers was to use Colorado Spruce or Norway spruce.
- Joan Witiak from the Shade and Tree committee was contacted regarding adding trees to the west side of the pool area on the outside of the fence.
- Shade and Tree committee does not handle evergreen/fir trees.
8:10 8:20 Feedback from the survey from Community Day.
- Shade at the pool area.
- Update to pool area. (Zero depth pool 4 requests)
- Need more basketball facilities. Municipal Park courts get crowded.
- More pavilions throughout the parks systems.
8:20 8:35 Pool comments.
- General comments from the board members observations and comments of acquaintances are all positive. The lifeguards are much more responsive and actively sociable.
- There are discussions regarding upgrading the entrance to the pool to make it more secure and attractive.
Recommendation: The Board recommends that the Township purchases a commercial lightning meter for use in the pool area and all Township sanctioned outdoor activities. In addition, devise a protocol for the evacuation of the pool and other recreation programs in the case of severe weather activity in the area. Motion by Dean Koski, seconded by Mike Stasak. All members voted in favor.
8:35 8:45 Youth Triathlon Saturday, July 20, beginning at 9:00 AM, check-in is at 8:30 AM.
- Board member Tom Black will be discussing preparation needs during the park program on Friday, July 12.
8:45 to 9:35 Park Updates

- "Holes" have developed under some of the swings and need to be raked and filled in.
- Crawford Dean Koski
- Ground breaking to occur on July 15. All Phase I infrastructure (parking lots, water lines, sewage lines, etc
) to be completed within 45 days.
- Unfortunately some trees were removed to allow access between both parking areas to adhere to ADA requirements so handicapped individuals can access facilities.

- Additional mulch is required under some of the swing areas.
- Some dead evergreen branches on shrubbery need to be removed.
- A Township resident approached one of the board members and praised the summer parks program.

- Park program has very active participation.
- Neighbors have again voiced concerns regarding youth
Recommendation: The Board recommends the addition of a barrier from the east entrance of Pharo Park on to Kim Road to prevent youth from traveling out on to the road without stopping. The suggestion is a barrier that can open to allow municipal vehicular traffic and still allows pedestrians and bicycles to traverse. Motion by Mike Stasak, seconded by Betty Soltys. All members voted in favor.

9:35 to 9:45 Recreation Director Update.
- Pool is running smoothly for the last few weeks.
- Summer program memberships appear to be up.
- Summer basketball program has been very well received. The program has taken on more of a "learning" aspect.
9:50 Motion to close the meeting by M. Caffrey, seconded by M. Stasak. All members voted in favor.
