MEMBER ATTENDANCE:  Steve Crump, Karen Kennedy, Betty Soltys, Mike Stasak, and Mike Caffrey

 

Call to order:  7:40 PM by Betty Soltys.  Motion to open the meeting by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Karen Kennedy.  Approved by all members. 

 

Review of March 2004 minutes – Motion to approve by Steve Crump, seconded by Mike Stasak.  Approved by all members. 

 

7:40 to 7:50 – Candidate for open position on the Recreation Advisory Board (RAB).

  • Robert Roll, a resident of the Township for ~32 years, presented himself to the RAB for potential appointment to the Board.   

 

7:50 to 8:25 – RAB Chairperson Update

  • Crawford Park Update.  Estimates for turf upgrading were provided to the Township Manager.
  • Tomilson and Bomberger estimate suggests killing all of the existing vegetation and top-grade and reseed. 
  • Bill Hursh attended the public hearing held June 2nd regarding the distribution of the potential $40 million Northampton County Recreation program. 
  • RAB members have received many questions from unhappy residents as to why the Township Pool has not yet been opened in light of Bethlehem School District beginning summer recess on June 4th.  Revenues are being lost during the 2 weeks that the pool will be closed until the opening on June 19th. 
  • A suggestion from a resident at Family Fun Day was to offer swim lessons during the late afternoon for working parents who cannot get their children to morning swim lessons.  The RAB suggests offering a limited class schedule to judge interest.

 

8:25 to 8:35 – Park Updates

  • Municipal Park - The tennis nets at Municipal Park need repair/replacement.  1 net requires replacement and 1 net requires a new center strap and anchor. 
  • Pharo Park - 1 net needs to be replaced and 1 net requires repair to the center strap.
  • Westgate Park – The swing area requires more mulch.
  • Troxell Park – New benches have been installed in close proximity to the play structure.
  • Delta Manor – No issues.
  • College Heights – No issues.
  • Birchwood Park – No issues.
  • Macada North – No issues.
  • Village View – No issues.

 

8:35 to 9:30Long Range Recreation Planning

  • Large capital issues as identified during a meeting with the RAB Chairperson, Township Manager and Township Engineer.  Key areas Community Center, Pool, Parks/Open Space and Hike/Bike Trails. 
  • Park Tour – Monday, June 28th at 6:30.

 

9:35 – 9:40 – Meeting closed for Executive Session.

 

9:40 - Motion to close the meeting by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Karen Kennedy.  All members voted in favor.

 

Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 8, 2004.
