Minutes 03/13/2004

 

MEMBER ATTENDANCE:  Steve Crump, Karen Kennedy, Betty Soltys, Mike Stasak, Bill Hursh, and Mike Caffrey

 

Call to order:  7:30 PM by Betty Soltys.  Motion to open the meeting by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Karen Kennedy.  Approved by all members. 

 

Review of January 2004 minutes – Motion to approve by Steve Crump, seconded by Mike Stasak.  Approved by all members. 

 

7:50 to 8:30 – RAB Chairperson Update

  • Crawford Park Update.  Estimate from Grace Industries to re-grade and re-seed all of the fields at Crawford Park.  The Recreation Advisory Board (RAB) will seek more information and estimates before presenting its recommendation to the Board of Supervisors (BOS).
  • Previous estimates from The Brickman Group included top-dressing and over-seeding.  Walters Landscaping, performed maintenance for Bethlehem School District, will be contacted for advice/estimates.   
  • Fencing is required at Crawford Park along Crawford Road, 719’, for safety concerns.  The RAB will seek alternatives and estimated costs.
  • Additional shade structures at the pool are being reviewed and a recommendation will be forthcoming.

 

8:30 to 8:35 – Resignation 

  • The RAB regrets the resignation of Tom Black.  The Board plans to seek a new member to join.

 

8:35 to 8:40 – Resident Letter

  • A letter was received from a resident who expressed her appreciation of the parks in Hanover Township.  She requested her letter be part of the next newsletter to be sent by the Township.  The Board thought this would be a great article to kick off the summer park season.

 

8:40 to 9:05 – Recreation Director Update

  • The Tickets still need to be sold for Casino Royale night to be held March 26, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.  The tickets are being offered at $40.00 per individual and $75.00 per couple.

 

  • A Hanover Competitive Youth Cheering Squad will be starting up for 1st to 5th graders.  Registration begins the week of March 15, 2004. 

 

 

9:05 – 9:15 – Long Range Park Plans

·        The RAB needs to look into developing long range park plans to include a variety of activities/equipment that appeal to all residents of the Township.  We will begin by researching and possibly updating a previous open space study performed in the township approximately 14 years ago. 

 

9:15 – 9:30  - Playground Planning

·        The RAB is looking into various apparatuses for a tot lot at Crawford Park and Delta Manor.  The age range will be 2 – 6 and 6 – 12 year olds. 

 

 

9:30 - 9:35 - Bike Path Update

·        The RAB was informed that East Allen Twp. received a verbal approval from UGI to use a vacant gas line as a walking and bike trail.  This would connect Hanover Township to East Allen Township’s walking and bike trails and utilize the current overpass on Airport Road.  Further updates pending.

 

9:35 - Motion to close the meeting by Steve Crump, seconded by Karen Kennedy.  All members voted in favor.

 

Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 8, 2004.
