Minutes 5/8/2003

MEMBER ATTENDANCE: Dean Koski, Michael Caffrey, Karen Kennedy, Bill Hursh, Betty Soltys, Mike Stasak and Tom Black.

Call to order: 7:40 PM by Dean Koski. Motion to open the meeting by Dean Koski, seconded by Mike Stasak. Approved by all members.

Review and acceptance of April 2003 minutes – Motion by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Karen Kennedy. Approved by all members.

7:45 to 8:15 – Shade at pool update.

• The Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of 2 Wave shade structures for installation prior to, or early in, the upcoming pool season.
• The Recreation Advisory Board (R.A.B.) extends thanks to the B.O.S. and the Township Manager for addressing this important issue raised by many township residents and pool patrons.

Recommendation: The Recreation Advisory Board (R.A.B.) recommends that the 2 shade structures be split into two locations facing towards the Northeast so as not to be facing into the prevailing winds and to provide the maximum effective shade. One placed in the grassy area between the diving area of the main pool and the children’s pool. One placed on the south side of the walkway. The final placement to be worked between the R.A.B. and the Township staff. Motion by Mike Caffrey, seconded by Betty Soltys. All members voted in favor.

8:15 to 8:50 – Pool Issues

• The R.A.B. will discuss an Open House at the pool to kick off the pool season with the Recreation Director.

8:50 – 9:20 – Crawford Park.

• Meeting with Planning Engineers at Hanover Engineering to discuss final layout of the building on 5/9 at 1:30.

Recommendation: The R.A.B. recommends that the turf on the lower field on the southern parcel of Crawford Park should be upgraded in parallel during the construction of the service building at Crawford Park. Motion by Dean Koski, seconded by Betty Soltys. All members voted in favor.

8:50 – 9:50 – Handicap Access to the pool.

• A township resident and pool patron with a physical disability has requested that the Township consider providing wheel chair access to the main pool. The R.A.B. will search for potential grants and subsidies to assist in upgrading the existing equipment.

9:35 - 9:40 - Rails To Trails Update

• Hanover Engineering has created a map of the trail system as it currently exists in the Township. R.A.B. members will review the maps for any discrepancies and suggestions for new paths.

9:20 to 9:25 – Park Updates

• Delta Manor – Tom Black.

• Municipal Park – Mike Stasak
• Village View – Mike Stasak
• Troxell – Bill Hursh
• One of the hanging rings is missing from the play structure.
• Crawford – Dean Koski
• College Heights – Karen Kennedy

• The macadam pathway is cracking and will need maintenance performed to get it back to standard.

• Birchwood – Mike Caffrey

• Macada North – Karen Kennedy

9:50 – Motion to close the meeting by Betty Soltys, seconded by Tom Black. All members voted in favor.
