Minutes 5/09/2002
MEMBER ATTENDANCE: Michael Caffrey, Michael Stasak, Bill Hursh, Mary Ellen O’Connell and Betty Soltys. Supervisor John Diacogiannis attended representing the Board of Supervisors. Delta Manor park update provided by T. Black.
Call to order: 7:45 PM by Mike Stasak.
Review and acceptance of 4/11/2002 minutes – Motion by M. Caffrey, seconded by M. O’Connell. Approved by all members. NOTE: Board members did not receive hard copies of the April minutes.
7:50 – 8:50 – Recreation Director Update:
- New Pool Director has been hired – Joe Crossen. Experienced with aquatic programs, swim coaching, pool-management, Millersville University.
- 2 lifeguards are returning from 18 last years’ staff.
- Asst. Manager was hired also, Killeen Hudack (previous Hanover guard).
- Specific job descriptions including Lifeguard policies will be supplied to lifeguards prior to the start of the swim season. Pool opens 5/25 during weekends until public school completes their school year, then opens daily. Addt’l. training to occur prior to daily opening.
- Suggestion to hang a picture of each guard including their name and school in the breezeway at the pool entrance.
- The pool staff will manage the pool concession stand.
- Bon Ton Care-to-Share shopping tickets are available for sale at the Community Center. The tickets provide $5.00 to the Lions Club. The Lions Club will be using the money to purchase an Auto. External Defibrillator for the Community Center.
- Ready to Read day at the H.T.C.C. on May 17th from 12 to 2.
- PRPS – Playground maintenance and design seminar, June 28th. Times are still tentative. More details to follow.
- HTCC Preschool classes are already filled for next year. A "Funshine" Club is still taking enrollment.
- HTCC Newsletter to be mailed within the next week after updates are made.
8:50 to 9:10 – Park Updates
- Lacking trashcans, needs mulch around the bottom of slide, bench should face equipment, potential survey to local neighborhood.
- Municipal Park – Mike Stasak
- Kids have been "grinding" picnic tables with in-line skates. Suggestion to add material to the benches that would prevent kids from being able to grind on the bench seat. Observation of on-going vandalism should be reported to the police.
- Village View – Mike Stasak
- Questioned viability of the continued use of the climbing dome.
- Troxell – Bill Hursh
- Crawford – Dean Koski
- College Heights – Mary Ellen O’Connell
- Westgate – Betty Soltys
- Pharo – Mike Caffrey
- Birchwood – Mike Caffrey
- Park was originally planned to be a passive park without equipment.
- Macada North – Mary Ellen O’Connell
- Needs to have mulch added.
- New soccer nets are very appreciated.
9:10 – 9:35 – Community Family Fun Day.
- Utilize the events to identify ideas and desires of the community.
- Contact Special Events committee to identify if any objections.
- Provide questionnaires to gather data.
- Name tags for the event days identifying us as Recreation Advisory Board members.
- Park descriptions in printed form from the Township Comprehensive Plan and include the Summer Program information sheet.
- Need to establish a specific schedule for park members.
9:35 – 9:45 – Pool Discussion
- The high dive at the pool will be closed this summer. The low dive will be open.
9:45 – 9:50 – Betty solicited some quotes for the addition of landscaping shrubbery around the outside of the pool area. Betty will provide estimates at the next meeting.
9:50 – Motion to close the meeting by Betty Soltys, seconded by Bill Hursh. All members voted in favor.
Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2002.
