HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING
August 2, 2004
The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was called to order at 5:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18017
In attendance were Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Dave Zakeski, Linda Taylor, and Frank Colon.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Upon the motion of Linda Taylor, seconded by Dan Roman, the commission approved the minutes of the STAC meeting on July 5, 2004.
2. PERMITS: Discussed status of outstanding permits. Assignments were made to check on newly planted trees. Reminder notices will be sent out for permits expiring this fall. Resident had removed a dead 10-ft tall tree and dumped it on the road instead of properly disposing of it. Township crew will be notified.
3. PARK TREE PLANTING: Joan Witiak distributed lists of possible trees for park planting. Had discussion about an area in Troxell Park, as well as evergreens in Westgate park which had been planted very close together, resulting in unhealthy trees. In addition, there are some trees in Macada North Park which are dying. Joan stated that bids should go out by the end of August for a late fall/winter planting. Park sites will be reviewed with the Township Manager and Public Works Director.
4. REVIEW VALLEY VIEW ESTATES: The plan had no numerical listing of trees to be removed and no replacement trees were listed on the plan.
REVIEW LVCC, PHASE II, LOT 4: Suggested using another variety of tree for the Red Sunset maples, since these trees do not do well in drought conditions.
5. OLD/NEW BUSINESS: Dan Roman had sent out four bids for park tree watering. The bids are due in by Friday, August 6th. None have been returned to date.
Linda Taylor has researched the printing of the Shade Tree Care leaflet. A new supply will be ordered.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, August 30th, at 6:30 p.m.
