Hanover Township Shade Tree Advisory Commission Meeting
August 5, 2003
The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was held at 6:45 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem PA 18017.
In attendance were: Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Susan Scholl, and Frank Colon.
1. Upon the motion of Dan Roman, seconded by Joan Witiak, the minutes of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission dated June 30, 2003 were approved.
2. Discuss Hanover Pointe: The following concerns were noted regarding the landscape plans. The replacement trees are listed as Eastern Redbud, an unacceptable variety. The varieties of street trees are planted in clumps, instead of being alternated. The sweetgum variety should be listed as the seedless type.
3. Discuss Permits: Hanoverville Rd. was evaluated during the past month and permit notices were sent to residents with dead or missing trees. There are only a few expired permits pending and residents will be notified.
4. Discuss Park Tree Planting: Dan Roman provided a map of the area where the 65 trees donated by Patriot Bank will be planted in the fall. The plan will be presented to the Supervisors at an upcoming meeting for approval.
A late fall/winter park tree planting program will be planned when we get a list of available trees from nurseries. The Recreation Advisory Board has indicated locations for trees in several parks, and some dead or dying trees in Pointe North Park must be replaced.
5. Discuss Landscape Requirements/Woodlands Ordinance: A letter from the Supervisors was received stating that no action will be taken on the Woodlands Ordinance at the current time.
6. New Business:
A tree for the front of the Community Center was discussed.
Susan Scholl noted that there are many missing or dead trees in Hanover Crossings.
A letter from Hanover Engineering was received stating that a large maple tree had been removed by mistake in the Monocacy Farms construction project. The developer will replace the tree on an inch for inch basis.
Joan Witiak will meet tomorrow with representatives from Bennigan’s, Hanover Engineering, and Jim Sterner to evaluate a large Norway maple tree on Schoenersville Rd. that may be removed for sign visibility.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Witiak
