HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

July 17, 2006

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was held at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18017, at 6:30 PM.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Susan Scholl, David Zakeski, Daniel Roman, and Frank Colon.

1.      Upon motion of Susan Scholl, seconded by Daniel Roman, the minutes of the May 31, 2006, STAC meeting were approved.

2.      Review Permits:  Susan checked the locations for the slips that were returned and all trees have been planted.

3.      Watering and Pruning:  If we get 3 weeks with no rain, then the new park trees will have to be watered.

We will walk the parks and mark the young trees that need pruning and have them pruned by a certified arborist in the fall.  This is the optimal time to prune young trees to encourage healthy, strong growth.

4.      Trees at Crawford Park Parking Lot:  We were not able to locate now the variety of trees we want to plant at the entrance to the parking lot.  Also, this is not a good time to plant trees.  They will be planted in the fall.

5.  Meeting with Manager:  Reviewed items to be discussed on July 18, 2006.

5.      Old/New Business:  Dan Roman had researched tree varieties to plant in the open space to the west of Hanover Crossing south.  The tree bid requests will go out this fall.

The next two meetings will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006, and Tuesday, September 5, 2006, because of changes in the Planning Commission schedule and Labor Day.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan Witiak for Linda Taylor
