HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

July 25, 2005

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was called to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem PA  18017.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, David Zakeski.

1.      Upon the motion of Dan Roman, seconded by David Zakeski, the commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the STAC on June 27, 2005.

2.  Review Permits:  Six permits were removed from the list because trees were planted.  No new permits were returned.

3.  Park Tree Planting:  The STAC walked Pointe North Park and found possible locations for 20 trees for a late fall planting.  Bid letters will be sent out in August, and Township approval will be obtained for the locations.

Patriot Bank has not replaced the leaning trees in Pointe North Park.

There was severe Japanese beetle damage to several species of trees in the park.

4.  Tree Topping:  Two residents who topped trees in the ROW have not returned slips listing the tree contractors who performed this deadly practice.  They will be called.

5.      Review Hanover Lot 2 – Hanover Highlands:  Question the necessity of paving a large area when only 44 parking spaces are required.

Alder Place L.P. – Suggested another variety of tree for the parking area.

Dewire Estates – Several comments relating to the removal and replacement of trees.

6.      Old/New Business:

The meeting date for August has been changed to Wednesday, September 7, because of the Labor Day holiday.

Dave Zakeski spoke with representatives from the cities of Bethlehem and Allentown to learn how they water newly planted trees.  We will discuss all options with the Township Manager, since no watering bids were returned.  It is foolish to plant trees and have no ability to water them during a dry summer.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan Witiak for Linda Taylor
