HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

July 5, 2004

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem PA 18017.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, David Zakeski, and Susan Scholl.

1. Upon the motion of Dan Roman, seconded by Susan Scholl, the commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the STAC dated June 1, 2004, with one correction. Item 2, paragraph 2 should have “and the health of the tree” added at the end.

2. Permits:

The Villani lot plan was submitted with the existing trees shown. Dan Roman will check it.

Susan Scholl and David Zakeski will check properties with expired permits.

3. Park Tree Planting:

A list of the trees needed at each park has been compiled, both replacement and additional plantings. Dan Roman will work with the Township to enable the bid requests to be sent out in September.

A letter was sent to the landscaper and engineer for Patriot Bank concerning the leaning trees in Pointe North Park.

4. Water Bids:

Dan Roman will send out bids to firms interested in watering the new park trees in case of drought conditions this summer.

  1. Review Hanover Pointe:

The street trees should be alternated on streets, not planted in groups, because of the danger of disease wiping out a species, as occurred on Hanoverville Rd.

  1. Old/New Business:

The meeting date for July had been changed to August 2. Because of a Planning Commission change, we will meet at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. that night.

The two beech trees from Bennigan’s finally have been planted in the Municipal Park.

Before the meeting at the Municipal Building, the Commission met at the pathway on Southland Dr. and examined the condition of the trees along Southland and the pathway. The condition of the remaining trees is deplorable. Almost every tree has construction or lawnmower damage. Hanover Engineering will be consulted. Also, residents living in Hanover Crossing have requested that trees be planted in the Township tract to the rear of their properties. This option will be investigated.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan Witiak for Linda Taylor
