Hanover Township Shade Tree Commission Meeting
June 10, 2002
The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Commission was held at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 18017 at 6:30 P.M.
In attendance were Joan Witiak, Jeff Waldron, David Zakeski, Linda Taylor, Daniel Roman and Supervisor Frank Colon.
1. Upon motion of Daniel Roman, seconded by Linda Taylor, the Commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the Shade Tree Commission dated May 20, 2002.
2. Review tree list:
Crabapple tree selections from the tree list prepared by the Urban Forester, Julianne Schieffer, will be added to our tree list. The flowering cherry will also be added.
3. Discuss permits:
Reviewed expired permits. Joan Witiak will speak with Jim Sterner regarding action to be taken.
4. Review:
Jaindl Land Co. Monocacy Farms Subdivision: There are only three varities of trees listed on the plan with 592 street trees to be planted. We recommend more varieties of trees.
We recommend saving some of the very large trees scheduled for removal, even if it takes some care to do it. It is a great waste to have these large trees removed.
We recommend that street trees be planted behind the sidewalks, not 2’6" from the curb.
5. Discuss pruning:
Some firms will be contacted about pruning approximately 25 trees in Troxell and Pointe North Parks. Tree maintenance is an essential part of healthy park trees.
6. New business:
It was noted that Wegmans plans to donate 16 to 20 acres to the Township. We would like to see some part of this land reforested as a passive recreation area.
Discussed fall planting project; Stokes Park Rd area discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Daniel J. Roman
