SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

MINUTES - JUNE 27, 2005

6:30 P.M.

 

 

IN ATTENDANCE:   Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Dave Zakeski, Susan Scholl, Linda Taylor

 

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:          Minutes from the meetings of April 25 and June 1, 2005 were approved with Linda Taylor initiating the motion and Susan Scholl as second.

 

2. REVIEW PERMITS:   Susan sent reminders to residents who have not responded.  Discussion about outstanding permits.  No permits returned during the past month.

 

3. PARK TREE PLANTING:  Discussion about a late fall planting in Pointe North Park.  STAC will meet on July 6 at 5 p.m. for an observational walk through Pointe North Park to evaluate placement of said trees.  Dan will check with Bill Hursh from Recreation to get input on Troxell Park.

 

4.  WATERING BIDS:  Joan reported that we received no bids for watering newly planted park trees during summer drought conditions.  Dave will call the parks departments of Bethlehem and Allentown to see how they water new plantings.

 

5.  TREE TOPPING:  STAC reviewed a sample letter to send to residents who hire firms that do this  damaging method of pruning.  STAC decided an annual reminder on topping and watering in the Hanoverview would be beneficial for residents. 

 

6.  OLD/NEW BUSINESS:  Joan reported that Traditions of America has agreed to move the tennis courts shown on the plan elsewhere to save the 30 large healthy oak trees.  We applaud Traditions for their cooperation.
