Hanover Township Shade Tree Commission Meeting

March 18, 2002

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Commission was held at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 18017 at 6:30 P.M.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Jeff Waldron, David Zakeski, Daniel Roman, and guests Linda Taylor and Supervisor Frank Colon.

Upon motion of Jeff Waldron, seconded by Daniel Roman, the Commission approved the agenda.

Upon motion of David Zakeski, seconded by Jeff Waldron, the Commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the Shade Tree Commission dated February 18, 2001.

Spring mulching bids:

Only two bids have been received to date. They will be presented to the Supervisors with a recommendation for the lower bid.

Review tree list: On hold until the Pennsylvania Urban Forestry list is received.

Review ordinances:

Frank Colon will review some suggested ordinance changes and submit them to Hanover Engineering for comments.

Expired permits:

Daniel Roman will contact a resident to assist them with selecting a replacement tree this spring. Frank Colon indicated that the Zoning Officer should handle expired permits because he is the one with enforcement powers.

Review Hanover Glen:

A larger variety of trees are required. Only two varieties are shown on the prints. We also need to know the number, location, and variety of replacement trees.

New business:

• LVIP IV will be checked for dead or missing trees by David Zakeski. The landowners and Mr. Kerry Wrobel will be notified of the findings.
• The Hanoverview newsletter deadline is April 15.
• Daniel Roman will pursue getting bids for pruning the two beech trees in Troxell Park which are in very poor condition.
• A resident has requested permission to remove some mature trees in the right of way. All members will check the trees before a decision is made.
• Daniel Roman will get a print of the proposed land donation to the township by Wegmans.
