Hanover Township Shade Tree Commission Meeting

November 18, 2002

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Commission was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem PA 18017.

In attendance were: Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Jeff Waldron, David Zakeski and Linda Taylor.

  1. Upon the motion of Dan Roman, seconded by Jeff Waldron, the commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the Shade Tree Commission dated October 21, 2002.
  2. Discuss Permits: Joan provided a list of people who have not returned permits or who have not planted replacement trees within one year. Also, it was noted that one dead tree needing to be replaced has not been removed may be classified as a hazard tree. Joan will give the list of names to Jim Sterner for enforcement.
  3. Discuss Park Tree Pruning, Planting and Watering: Dan Roman will talk to Jim Sterner about additional pruning of park trees in 2002.
  4. There are 25 trees to be planted near Merrivale Lane and in Pointe North Park. Dan Roman will meet with the Township people to get final approval for the planting sites. Because of the time, it is doubtful if the trees can be planted this winter.

There are approximately 110 trees to be given to the township by Hanover Ridge. The Recreation Advisory Board will be contacted for suggested park locations for these trees.

The Wegman’s tract was mentioned and will be researched further.

Dan Roman has not received all bids requested for watering the new park trees next summer in case of drought conditions. He will discuss this issue with Jim Sterner when all bids have been received.

  5. Discuss Northgate II: The trees to be removed were not shown in detail on the plan and a list was requested. When deciduous trees are removed, they must be replaced with large deciduous trees, not evergreens.
  6. Discuss GMA at Northgate: A few minor comments were made.
  7. Any new business: List of meeting dates for 2003 was distributed. The Shade Tree Commission will meet on the Monday prior to the Planning Commission, with the exception of May and September because of holidays.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda K. Taylor
