HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

 

November 24, 2003

 

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was held at 6:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem, PA   18017.

 

In attendance were: Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Dave Zakeski, and Susan Scholl

 

1.      Upon the motion of Dan Roman, seconded by David Zakeski, the commission approved the minutes from the meeting of the STAC dated October 27, 2003.

 

2.      Report on Supervisors’ Action:  At the meeting on November 11, 2003, the Supervisors amended the Approved Tree List and the landscape requirements for SALDO and zoning.

 

At the meeting on November 18, 2003, they did not take our recommendation for planting all  red cedar trees as a buffer along the tree line behind Hanover Glen.

    

3.      Report on Davis Subdivision:  Plan did not list the number of trees to be removed and replacement trees.  Other options for redirecting water could be explored to prevent the removal of 57 trees.

 

      Report on Faulkner Subaru:  Plan submission was still incomplete.  It did not list the number of trees to be removed and replacement trees.  Also, it must have a several varieties of street trees.  Other options for redirecting water could be explored to prevent the removal of trees.

 

4.      Discuss Permits:  Several residents have moved without replacing their dead or missing trees.  The new owners have been made aware of this situation.   

 

5.      Discuss Early Spring Park Tree Planting:  It was decided that the Commission will meet early in December to select locations for new trees in our parks and municipal areas.

 

6.      Discuss Spring Mulching:  The park trees will be counted in early December when we survey the parks, in order to obtain an accurate count for bidding.

 

7.      New Business:  Hanover Engineering will be notified of a large number of trees damaged by heavy equipment in the tree lines of Hanover Crossing.  These damaged trees should be removed and replaced.

 

Dan Roman was thanked for his great effort in organizing the planting of 79 donated trees along Stokes Park Rd. and in Pointe North Park.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
