MINUTES

IN ATTENDANCE:  Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Susan Scholl, Dave Zakeski, and Linda Taylor

1.  APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM September 5, 2007 MEETING:  Motion from Dan Roman,

with Dave Zakeski second.  Minutes approved.

2.  REVIEW PERMITS:  Susan Scholl distributed permit lists and reported that the Township Zoning Officer has sent letters to properties with expired permits.  Trees to be replaced by this fall will be checked, and a reminder letter will be sent if trees have not been planted.  Homeowners asked for advice on the health of their street trees.

3.  PARK TREE PLANTING UPDATE:  The logistics of fall planting were discussed, and questions were formulated for the Public Works Director pertaining to fall tree planting.

4.      REVIEW:

Traditions of America at Bridle Path -  White ash trees listed on plan should be replaced by another variety.  Buffer trees should be planted at least 20 feet away from the existing tree line, not under the existing canopy.  Buildings and driveways should be constructed before the street trees are planted to avoid tree/driveway conflicts.

LVCC II, Lots 5-6 -  Landscape details were missing from plan.  No comments possible.

Hanover Corp. Center 2, Lot 3 -  Three ft. wide planting strip is much too narrow to accommodate trees.  Trees appear to be planted too close to CVS building (approx. 5 feet).  Variety of trees is satisfactory.

5.      DEWIRE ESTATES TREES:  Three commission members met with the developer’s representative on Friday, September 21, to assess the condition of the remaining trees in this subdivision.  Many are in poor condition. The developer proposes removing them and replacing them with 4” caliper trees of the varieties we select.  A discussion was held on what tree varieties to plant.  Joan will contact the developer with the list.  The trees to be removed should be marked on-site by the end of the week.

6.  OLD/NEW BUSINESS:  A discussion was held about removing ash trees from the Approved Street Tree list because of the advance of the Emerald ash borer into Western Pennsylvania.

MEETING WAS ADJOURNED AT 8:10 P.M.

NEXT MEETING:  Monday, October 29, 2007 at 6:30 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Taylor, Secretary
