HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

3630 Jacksonville Road

Bethlehem, PA   18017

Monday, September 26, 2005

6:30 P.M.

In attendance:  Joan Witiak, Daniel Roman, Susan Scholl, Linda Taylor, and Frank Colon.

1.  Approval of minutes of September 7, 2005 meeting:  Motion by Dan Roman, with Linda Taylor as second.  Approved unanimously.

2.  Review Permits:  Discussion of permits and expiration dates for residents.  STAC

reiterates the policy of allowing 1year for residents to replace trees before any recourse by the Township. Frank stated trees MUST be replaced in a timely manner by residents.  STAC discussed street trees which are planted directly on property lines.  Will request developers take care not to place trees on property lines.

3. Park Tree Planting:  As of Friday, September 23, no bids had been received, but they should be coming in this week.  Frank commented about the Lion's Club planting of 2 commemorative trees by their pavilion, along with a complimentary letter to the township.

4.  Review Jaindl Land Co., Hanover Corp. Center 2:  The revised plan has a larger variety of trees, but needs genus and species listed on plan.  Plan showed some replacement trees 15 ft. apart on a 4 ft. berm.  STAC agreed this planting is too close for future mature trees.  In addition, the plan shows trees too close to planned underground utilities and possibly too close to the curb.    Issue to be addressed.

Review LVCC Lot 12:  Problems with trees shown on plan without a name or key.  Some trees appear too close to building.  No tree protection fences shown on plan.

5. Budget:  Budget due by September 30.  STAC discussed watering plans for next summer.

6.  Old/New Business:  Frank suggested planting trees for residents affected by township "improvements".  Jacksonville Rd. sidewalk was cited as an example, as well as the corner of Stoke Park Rd. and Shelly, where installation of curbing resulted in the removal of a large, old, healthy tree.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.  Next meeting is October 31.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Taylor, Secretary
