HANOVER TOWNSHIP SHADE TREE ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING

September 5, 2007

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was held at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18017, at 6:30 PM.

In attendance were Joan Witiak, Daniel Roman, Susan Scholl, and David Zakeski.

1.      Upon motion of Dan Roman, seconded by Susan Scholl, the minutes of the July 26, 2007, STAC meeting were approved.

2.      Review Permits:  Susan Scholl reported that the Township Zoning Officer has sent letters to properties with expired permits.  Trees to be replaced this fall will be checked, and a reminder letter will be sent if trees have not been planted.

3.      Park Tree Planting Update:  Dan Roman reported on the planting in the area to the west of Green Briar Drive.   More trees are scheduled to be planted in this area in the fall.  Dan has checked trees at several nurseries for fall planting and will coordinate this with the Township Public Works Director.

4.      Review

Traditions of America at Bridle Path:  No comment on the Revised Preliminary/Record Plan.

DeWire Estates Lot 14:  If trees to remain on this “Woodlands” property are missing or diseased, they must be replaced.  Remaining canopy cover does not total 35% as required.

5.      2008 Budget:  A slight increase in the amount allocated to mulching park trees will be requested because of the additional number of trees.  The other items will remain the same as 2007.

6.      Old/New Business:  A discussion was held concerning the tree line in Municipal Park.  It contains many very healthy large walnut trees.

Correspondence was sent to the Director of Public Works regarding pruning large branches      from the oak tree in the northwest corner of Troxell Park for safety reasons.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

The next meeting will be on Monday, September 24, 2007, at 6:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joan Witiak for Linda Taylor
