Hanover Township Shade Tree Advisory Commission Meeting

September 29, 2003

The monthly meeting of the Shade Tree Advisory Commission was held at

6:30 p.m. at the Hanover Township Municipal Building, 3630 Jacksonville Road,

Bethlehem, PA 18017.

In attendance were: Joan Witiak, Dan Roman, Dave Zakeski, Susan Scholl, Linda Taylor, and Frank Colon

  1. Upon the motion of Linda Taylor, seconded by Dave Zakeski, the commission approved the minutes from the meeting of STAC dated August 25, 2003.
  2. Report on Hanover Pointe: The new landscaping plan indicated that the varieties of trees originally agreed upon had been changed. Letter pending from Mike Schnalzer on this issue.
  3. Patriot Bank: We will be getting more than the original 65 trees from developer because of additional trees that they asked to remove. Discussion about where to plant the trees.

  4. Discuss permits: Joan assigned commission members different addresses to check whether replacement trees had been planted. Names of residents who have failed to return permits for dead or missing trees will be given to the Township

4. Discuss Park Tree planting: Patriot Bank trees will comprise our Fall/Winter planting this year. Discussed a possible Spring 2004 planting of 25 to 30 trees to satisfy requests of Recreational Advisory Board. We will be getting 3 large trees from Bennigan’s to replace the large Norway maple that they removed on Schoenersville Rd.. Discussion about where to plant them. Three possible sites for Municipal Park planting: 1) replacement near basketball courts, 2) Community Center mound, 3) near tennis courts. Will clear with Kevin Healy.

  1. Discuss 2004 budget: Discussed various components of 2004 budget. No watering was needed this summer, thankfully, but next summer may bring a drought again. Decided to budget for 4 park tree waterings, the usual mulching and some pruning.
  2. New Business: Hanoverview publication deadline October 15. Discussion about possible articles. Suggested courtesy letter to BASD about mulching around trees at Hanover School, as they are being severely damaged by mowers.

Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Linda K. Taylor
